DU’A QUNUT

Hasan bin Ali (R.A.) said:  “The Messenger of Allah (SAW) taught me the the words which I should say in the du’a of wtr, and those are as follows:

“Allah hum mahdinee feeman hadayt,

wa ‘afinee feeman afayt,

wata wal-lanee feeman tawal-layt,

wa barik lee feema a’tait,

waqinee shar-ra ma qadayt,

fa-innaka taqdee wala yuqda alayt,

wala ya’ iz-zu man ‘adyt,

tabarakta rabbana wata ‘alayt,

nastaghfiruka wanatubu ilayk,

Wa sal-lal laha alan-nabee,”

“O Allah, make me among those whom you have guided, and make me among those whom you have saved, and make me among those whom you have chosen, and bless whatever you have given me, and protect me from the evil which you have decreed; verily, you decide the things and nobody can decide against you; surely the person you befriend can’t be disgraced, and the person you oppose can’t be honoured. You are blessed, our Lord, and exalted, we ask for your forgiveness and turn to you. Peace and mercy of Allah be upon the Prophet.”  (Abu Dawud, Nisai, Ibn Majan, Tirmizi).
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever swears by anything other than Allah is guilty of kufr or shirk.”
(Saheeh, narrated by Ahmad, 2/125; Abu Dawood, 3251; al-Tirmidhi, 1535)
REVIVE A SUNNAH ⇨ “DRINKING ZAMZAM WATER AND USING IT AS A CURE” ✦ It is narrated on the authority of Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said the Messenger of Allah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa salam said about Zamzam water:► “It is blessed and a food that nourishes” al-Tayaalisee adds, “And a cure for sickness.” [Muslim 6359] ~ Read on comment for the detail!
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, “Whenever someone greets me, Allah returns the soul to my body (in the grave) and I return his greeting.” [Abu Dawud].

When the Day of Judgment comes, we will without doubt all desire to steer clear from our sins and wish that we had done more good deeds that would be a cause for removal of our bad deeds.
Of much interest to us Muslims these days should be the fasting the 9th and the 10th of Muharram. The Prophet, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, said about the voluntary fasting on the Day of `Aashuraa:
( “It expiates the sins of the preceding year.”) [Saheeh Muslim]
Ibn `Abbas, radhiallahu `anhu, reported: “The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) ` came to al-Madeenah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of `Aashura. He asked them about that. They replied, “This is a good day, the day on which Allah rescued Baani Israaeel from their enemy. So Musa observed fast on this day.” The Prophet said, “We have more claim over Musa than you.” So the Prophet, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, observed fast on that day and ordered (the Muslims) to observe fast (on that day).” [Saheeh al-Bukhari, Muslim]
Ibn `Abbas also reported, “The Messenger of Allah fasted on the day of `Aashuraa and ordered the people to fast on it. The people said, “O Messenger of Allah, it is a day that the Jews and Christians honor.” The Prophet, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, said, “When the following year comes – Allah willing – we shall fast on the ninth.” The death of the Prophet, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, came before the following year.” [Saheeh Muslim, Abu Dawood]
So it is recommended to fast on the 10th of Muharram and the 9th along with it as well.
Qadi ibn Rushd says in that the scholars disagreed whether the fast is to be done on the 9th or the 10th of Muharram based on the above traditions [Bidayat ul Mujtahid]. And I have found a recommendation to fast on both days in various books, such as al-Hindees “Mukhtasar al-Ahkaam al-Fiqhiyyah”, Jameel Zenos “The Pillars of Islam and Iman”, and Dr. Jaafar Sheikh Idris “The Fast.”
As for the wisdom behind this fast, the following is stated in the mukhtasar version of Ibn ul Qayyims “Zaad ul-Ma`aad” “The day of `Aashuraa was the day when Musa and his men got freedom from the hands of the Pharaoh and it was in the sacred memory of this great event that the Muslims observed voluntary fasting. The idea underlying this is to stress the affinity amongst the messengers of Allah and to show that religious devotion is a constant flow from one generation to another. The Prophet, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, came not to abrogate all the earlier religious practices but to codify and preserve them for all times to come in ideal forms.”

Narrated by ‘Abdullah: I visited the Prophet (peace be upon him) during his ailments and he was suffering from a high fever. I said, “You have a high fever. Is it because you will have a double reward for it?” He said, “Yes, for no Muslim is afflicted with any harm but that Allah will remove his sins as the leaves of a tree falls down.” [Bukhari Book 7 Volume 70 Hadith 550]
“Allah does not look at your appearance or your possessions; but He looks at your heart and your deeds.” (Muslim)
